Internationalisation of the Berlin music industry

Multiplicities has developed a vision paper on the internationalisation of Berlin as a music location for the Berlin Music Commission. The analysis and comparison of international case studies of successful internationalisation and the investigation of the potential of the Berlin music market enable the identification of central fields of action. Nine explicit theses on internationalisation were derived from the results, which were presented in a keynote speech at the Most Wanted: Music conference.

The explorative processing of internationalisation policies points to the relevance of new methods of urban governance. To this end, the study offers approaches and examples of collaborative policy-making at local level. Accordingly, value creation configurations in the music industry can be stabilised and internationalised with forms of innovative participation management. Both processes of digitalisation and trends in general social and economic transformation are of great importance here, making conventional sector models obsolete.
