ReportTransformation of an industrial wasteland into a creative quarter
With target group workshops, a future workshop and an urban development framework plan, Multiplicities is initiating a user-driven redevelopment of an old industrial site in Augsburg’s city centre on the Gaswerk site.
The Gaswerk site is being transformed into a new, creative and dynamic space for Augsburg on the basis of target group workshops, sub-space analyses and an urban development framework plan. The aim is to create a lively and vibrant place for artists, creative people and businesses. Inspired by this idea, the city of Augsburg decided to make the Augsburg Theatre its interim venue for the duration of the refurbishment. A user-centred culture of participation with specialist workshops, future workshops and open spaces guaranteed success in this open development process.
The future workshop built on the feasibility study on the Gaswerk conducted by Stadtwerke and presented to the city council in January 2014. This showed that it is possible to relocate the current Kulturpark West to the site. The site also offers further potential. At the end of June 2014, Dr Bastian Lange presented the concept for the Gaswerk future workshop to the city council.
